Kershader

(Cearsiadar)
Western Isles

A settlement in the South Lochs district of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides, Kershader (Gael: Cearsiadar) lies on the south shore of Loch Erisort opposite Laxay, a half-mile (1 km) northeast of Habost and a mile (1.5 km) west of Garyvard. A youth hostel, located in a former school building, is owned and run by the local community. The Park War Memorial is also to be found here. Unveiled in 1923, it originally served the settlements of Kershader, Habost, Garyvard and Caversta until 2002, when a grant from the War Memorials Trust allowed 62 names of individuals from other villages in the Park district who were not remembered elsewhere to be added.
