Bavelaw

City of Edinburgh

A location on the northern slopes of Hare Hill, close to the southern border of the City of Edinburgh, Bavelaw comprises the 16th-century Bavelaw Castle, together with farms at Bavelaw Mill, Wester Bavelaw and Easter Bavelaw. The Bavelaw Burn rises in headstreams to the southwest and flows through the Threipmuir and Harlaw Reservoirs to Balerno. Bavelaw was the property of the Braid family, passing to the Forrester, Mowbray, Dundas and Scott families.
