Formerly known as Holekettle, it developed after the building of the turnpike road c.1800 and the opening of the railway to Cupar in 1847. Its bridge was built in 1831. Kettlebridge and neighbouring Kingskettle were centres of the linen trade while coal, lime and stone were worked nearby.
