Flowing west it passes through the settlements of Sorn and Catrine before serving as the boundary between East Ayrshire and South Ayrshire between Burnfoot Bridge and Dalmore. It then meanders through lowland south of Annbank and Auchincruive in South Ayrshire before emptying into Ayr Bay at Ayr.
