An isolated loch on the Morvern peninsula of the West Highlands, Loch Tearnait lies more than 2 miles (3 km) south of the nearest road (in Gleann Geal) and 4½ miles (7 km) east northeast of Lochaline. It is the source of the Rannoch River and contains the remains of a crannog.
