An isolated shooting lodge and an estate in W Perth and Kinross, Auchnafree is situated near the junction of Glen Shervie with Glen Almond, 8 miles (13 km) northwest of Crieff. Auchnafree Craig lies to the northwest. Records show that there was a house at Auchnafree in 1457 and that the Sheriff of Perth resided at Auchnafree in 1595, suggesting a house of size and importance. The estate extends to 4856 ha (12,000 acres) and became the property of Sir Albert Whitaker (1860 - 1936) of Hesley Hall in Yorkshire in 1896, in whose family it remains.
