One of a group of drumlins on the left bank of the Black Burn in The Machars of Galloway, Barnkirk rises to just above 105m (344 feet) between Barharrie and Longleys, 6 miles (10 km) west of Newton Stewart. It is aligned NNE-SSW indicating the direction of ice flow. There is another summit called Barnkirk Hill 5½ miles (9 km) east.
