Halkirk is a parish, which lies in Highland Council Area, some 13 miles (21 km) south of Thurso and 19 miles (30 km) west of Wick in Highland.
It is located in the old county of Caithness, which disappeared following the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1974.
The parish has an area of 425.7 sq. km (164.3 sq. miles). Halkirk has 7 neighbouring parishes; namely Bower, Farr, Kildonan, Latheron, Reay, Thurso and Watten. The boundaries of this parish were modified among significant changes recommended by the Boundary Commissioners after the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1889.
