Assynt is a coastal parish, which lies in Highland Council Area, some 18 miles (29 km) north of Ullapool and 27 miles (43 km) west of Lairg in Highland. It is also known as Kirkton.
It is located in the old county of Sutherland, which disappeared following the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1974.
The parish has an area of 483.2 sq. km (186.5 sq. miles). Assynt has 4 neighbouring parishes; namely Creich, Eddrachillis, Kincardine and Lochbroom.
