A location in Kinross-shire, Perth and Kinross, the name Aldie is associated with Aldie Castle and the farms of Easter Aldie, Wester Aldie, Parks of Aldie and Hilton of Aldie, all lying on a ridge to the east of Powmill. Aldie Castle is believed to have been acquired by the powerful Mercer family, merchants in Perth, about the middle of the 14th Century and named after Aldia Murray, daughter of Sir William Murray of Tullibardine. The present fortified keep, restored between the 1930s and 1960s, dates largely from the 16th and 17th centuries. A village near the castle known as the Muckle Toon of Aldie disappeared sometime before the beginning of the 19th century.
