Millerhill

Midlothian

A hamlet in the N of Midlothian, Millerhill lies 1¼ miles (2 km) north of Dalkeith and a similar distance east of Danderhall. A railway station here (on the south side of the B6415 road) opened in 1847 on the Hawick line but was little used and closed after only two years. It reopened in 1858 as further railway lines were developed servicing the Scottish Borders and operated until 1955 for passengers, continuing until 1965 as a local freight siding. Just to the north lies Millerhill Marshalling Yard, a significant railway depot and junction. The village has grown significantly as part of the Shawfair development.
