Orinsay

(Orasay, Orosay, Orasaigh, Orosaigh)
Western Isles

A small township on the north shore of Loch Shell on the east coast of the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides, Orinsay (occasionally Orasay or Orosay, Gael: Orasaigh, previously Orosaigh) lies in the district known as Park, a mile (1.5 km) west of Limervoy. Although cleared for sheep in 1838, Orinsay was later resettled and benefits from a new village hall (2004), heated by an environmentally-friendly heat pump. Singer Calum Kennedy was born here in 1928.
