Lairig Ghru

A famous mountain pass in a U-shaped glaciated valley in the Cairngorm Mountains, the Lairig Ghru lies on the border between Aberdeenshire and Highland Council Areas, and provided a traditional connection and droving route between Glen More in Strathspey with Glen Dee and upper Deeside, linking Aviemore with Braemar, a distance of 19 miles (30 km). It reaches its greatest height of 835m (2739 feet) a quarter-mile (0.4 km) north of the Pools of Dee. Braeriach and Ben Macdui rise to the west and east respectively.
